Abstract

The article aims to summarise the curricula of Juozas Naujalis’s private music school, nationalised in 1920, later the State Music School, and their possible origins in the historical context of music education in Lithuania in the second half of the nineteenth–the early twentieth century. Although the circumstances of the founding of the State Music School have been investigated, some pages of its history still remain obscure. The relevance of this article is determined by the currently changing educational programmes in Lithuania and by the trends of the creation and transformation of the State Music School Conservatory in the light of educational programmes. The article presents in detail the first musical education programme prepared by the State Music School in 1923, the Law on the Music School adopted in 1921, and the consistent integration of music subjects into the educational process from 1920 to 1930. The purpose of the article is to show the first steps of the State School of Music towards its transformation into a conservatory taking into account musical education programmes and the reintegration of musical educational experience. Source analysis, historical comparative, and analytical-critical methods were used.
